About this app
This is a searchable reference for the US Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), 11th Edition with Revision 1 (December 2025) — built for engineers and practitioners who need to find and cite provisions quickly. It covers the complete federal manual: Part → Chapter → Section, with paragraphs labeled Standard, Guidance, Option, or Support exactly as the manual itself labels them; figures (sign graphics and diagrams); a browsable sign Item List; and a Notes feature for saving paragraphs, figures, and signs as you read.
Source
All content is sourced from the FHWA's own published PDF — the only form the current MUTCD is published in; there is no official HTML, XML, or other structured edition. The MUTCD is a work of the US federal government and is in the public domain under 17 U.S.C. §105 — the same original PDF this site's content is extracted from is available to download directly (30.2 MB).
How it's made
The text and figures on this site were extracted from the official PDF programmatically, and the extraction has been checked programmatically against the PDF (its own outline/bookmarks, font and layout metadata, and independent re-extraction) rather than verified by eye alone. This reduces the chance of a transcription error, but does not eliminate it.
This is not an official FHWA publication, and it is not a substitute for one. Anything you intend to use for design, compliance, or legal purposes should be checked against the official PDF, not relied on from this site alone.
Scope
This site covers the federal MUTCD only. Some states publish their own MUTCD supplements — California and Texas, for example, publish entire separate documents, not just footnotes to the federal manual — and those are out of scope here.
